Why do Brides “Trash the Dress?”

Since I am pretty new to the blog thing…. I wanted to write about things that happen during travel and/or about travel.

Destination Weddings are of course a huge phenomenon, because many couples have decided that they don’t want to spend a billion dollars for a wedding that is only about 8 – 10 hours long. They would rather take that money, and turn it into an event that can possibly last a week with their close family and friends.

After the wedding day has come and gone, many new brides have opted to enjoy a photo session that has been termed “trash the dress.” During this shoot the brides actually dive into pools, run into the ocean, take pictures on horses and many other odd and different ways of trashing the dress. I forgot to include that the hubby’s are not excluded from this shoot….. On our wedding day my husband wore a linen suit. He actually “trashed his suit.” We had a great time and it was totally worth it….. When we renew our vows in the future we might just do it again!!

Just in case anyone has wondered why a bride would spend so much money on a gown to possibly jump in a pool of mud…. It’s simple: they are never going to wear the dress again, gone are the days of passing down the dress to your daughter (kids are so darn picky nowadays), and who wants to pay to keep the darn thing in storage. My core reason for doing this during my destination wedding is because, it is so unique and out of the ordinary. The pictures are like artwork that you hang on your wall in your home. That day that you actually take the plunge and trash your dress will be just as memorable as your actual wedding.
